This brochure came with an Inverto 18 I purchased from eBay. The tool it accompanied is in reasonable condition with the exception of fairly deep pitting from rust that needed to be removed from the back end of each punch.
This brochure is unique among the various versions I have or am familiar with in that it is dated. The first page is dated 1937. From this date, we know that the "new, cutaway frame design" was introduced no later than 1937. This is compatible with the possibility that the new frame design was introduced around the time that the 1925 patent for the floating die plate was issued.
The version of the Inverto 18 described in the brochure is a hybrid between the earlier Inverto 18s and the later Inverto 18Bs. The set contains 130 punches and 25 stumps, 10 more stakes than the earlier Inverto 18's with the older frame design. The set also includes the new design 10 piece screw knocking sub-punches which fit the #120 holder. By the time the 18B was introduced, the new frame design was accompanied by only 100 stakes "for modern watches" and the stump count was reduced to 20.
From this brochure and the 1952 Hammel, Riglander catalog pages we've narrowed the introduction date for the 18B down to sometime between 1937 and 1952.
This brochure is also very useful in that it provides the clearest images I've found so far of the early stump designs. K&D's stake designs are fairly well documented (as well as being numbered on the tools themselves). Little information regarding the early stumps is available beyond the brief descriptions, dimensions, and chart found in the later Inverto 18B/18R brochure. The 1961 catalog does have clear images of some of the stumps in later sets.
Color and black & white screen resolution images of each page of the brochure as well as high resolution (1200 dpi or 600 dpi) images for download are available below.
