"Quick Fit" Modern Swiss Material System Catalog Hammel, Riglander & Co., Inc. 1937 64 pages staple bound wrappers, 10 5/8" x 7 1/8" (270mm x 180mm) I purchased this catalog from High Ridge Books in Deerfield, MA.

Page 57 of the catalog shows the K&D staking tool product line as of 1937. The older "Special" series products still dominate the offering but the Inverto received pride of place at the top of the page with a cut and descriptive text. The Inverto 18 product description here matches that contained in the 1937 "New Inverto 18" product brochure. The set includes an expanded selection of stakes and stumps compared to the previous version. However, here the product is not described as "new".

The inside back cover of this catalog shows the earliest mention I've found of a new Inverto frame design with a cut-away front. The cut on page 57 for the Inverto 18 still shows the older solid-front frame design and the text omits any mention of a new frame design. No specific products (e.g. Inverto 18, 18B, or 18R) are mentioned in the text. It may be that this catalog was published so soon after the new design was created that the decision about exactly how to offer this new frame as a product was yet to be made. The existence of this frame in 1937 may refute the idea that the "Improved 1946" version of the Inverto 18R was the first commercialization of the cut-away frame. If so, what changed in 1946 remains to be determined. It's still possible that the improvements made in 1946 center around the changes in the frame. If World War II (and the attendant economic turmoil) interrupted the planned introduction of the cut-away frame, the product could have made its debut in 1946.
